In 2012, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh sought and received approval from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to recognize CET as an evidence-based practice.
After rigorous review of the first two randomized-controlled trials of CET in schizophrenia, SAMHSA approved CET as an evidence-based practice and has now included it in its National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices. A complete description of their review is available at the NREPP website.
Note. SAMHSA approval of CET as an evidence-based practice was based on the primary research studies conducted by Hogarty and colleagues and the official CET Training Manual by Hogarty and Greenwald (2006).
